Scholarship Application Eligibility
Before you apply, please review the athlete eligibility requirements.
01
Competitive Athletes Only
Chance Sports scholarships are designed for competitive athletes who have earned their spot in a club or individual sport program. Whether you play a team sport or compete individually in something like Golf or Tennis, you may be eligible. We currently support athletes across 22 sports and we're always adding more.
02
Awarded to Athletes Ages 8-19
Our scholarships are available to athletes ages 8–19, from the beginning stages of finding their footing in competitive sport all the way through high school seniors. Once an athlete graduates high school, they complete their journey as a Chance Sports athlete.
03
Sports Club Must be a Chance Sports Partner
In order to be eligible for a scholarship, your athlete's competitive club must be an official Chance Sports Club Partner. Don't see your club listed? Encourage them to apply for a partnership on our Club Page — it's free, quick, and opens the door for every athlete in their program. Golf and Tennis athletes competing independently are exempt from this requirement.
04
Meet our Financial Eligibility Criteria
Chance Sports scholarships are need-based. Please review the chart below to see if your family meets our financial eligibility criteria. If you're unsure, we encourage you to apply — we review every application individually and are here to help.

Athlete Application and Selection Process
Everything you need to know about how to apply, what happens after you submit, and how scholarship decisions are made — we believe in transparency, and we want every family to feel informed and supported throughout the process.
Before submitting an application, please confirm that your athlete meets all of our eligibility requirements. This includes playing for an official Chance Sports Club Partner. You can find a full list of our partner clubs HERE. If your club is not yet a partner, encourage them to apply — it's free and opens the door for every athlete in their program.
Once your athlete has earned a spot on a competitive team — whether through tryouts or registration — you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. A separate application must be submitted for each athlete in your family, and you are welcome to apply for more than one. Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee a scholarship award. We review every application carefully and make decisions based on a number of factors. Use the link at the bottom of this page to get started.
Once your application is submitted, you will receive an automated confirmation email. Feel free to reply to that email with any questions. From there, here is what to expect:
We receive thousands of applications each year and we review every single one. Scholarship decisions are based on a combination of factors, including:
We wish we could say yes to every athlete who applies — and the honest truth is that it is one of the hardest parts of what we do. We are a small but mighty non-profit doing everything we can to make a difference for as many kids as possible, and we are grateful for every family that trusts us with their athlete's story.
Scholarship decisions are typically communicated during the last 1–2 days of the month. If your athlete is awarded, you will be notified via email during this time. For example:
If your athlete is not awarded a scholarship at this time, you will be notified via email during the last 1–2 days of the month or within the first two weeks of the following in which you applied. This does not mean your athlete's journey with Chance Sports is over. Waitlisted applications remain active and continue to be reviewed for up to 45 days from the original submission date. If a scholarship has not been awarded after that time, the application will be closed — but you are always welcome to submit a new application for that athlete during their next tryout cycle.
Awarded Athletes — Scholarship recipients are eligible to renew their award each year, as long as they continue to meet our eligibility criteria and complete the three annual renewal requirements. We love watching our scholars grow year over year. When it's time for the renewing athlete to reapply, they will receive communication from our team about next steps Waitlisted Athletes — If your application has been closed after the 45 day review period, you are welcome to submit a new application during the next tryout cycle. Not Selected Athletes — You are welcome to submit a new application during the next tryout cycle. We encourage you to reapply! Circumstances change, budgets shift, and we are always looking for ways to support more athletes.

● FAQ
Got some questions?We have answers

Submitting an application does not guarantee a scholarship award. We receive thousands of applications each year and review every single one — but as a small non-profit, we are not able to fund every athlete who applies. We wish we could. What we can promise is that every application is seen, considered, and treated with care.
We award between 20–70 athletes each month depending on available funding and the volume of applications received. The ratio of renewing to new athletes is roughly 80% renewing to 20% new.
This is a highly competitive scholarship and not every applicant will be awarded — but we encourage every eligible athlete to apply and reapply. Circumstances change, budgets shift, and we are always working to expand our reach.
Chance Sports scholarships are exclusively for competitive athletes. If your athlete plays for a competitive club or competes individually at a competitive level, they may be eligible. Recreational athletes or school-sport only athletes are not currently eligible for funding.
Chance Sports scholarships are designed to cover the real costs of competitive sport, including:
✅ Club fees and tuition
✅ Tournament fees
✅ Equipment and uniforms
✅ Sport-related travel — flights, hotels, and gas
Every dollar is intended to keep your athlete in the game.
Scholarship funds are delivered through a digital spending card via our partner, Chek. The card can be used online or in-person at approved sport-related vendors, and can be added to your mobile wallet for easy tap-to-pay — similar to Apple Pay or Google Pay. No physical card required.
There are no application deadlines — we accept applications on a rolling basis and review them monthly. We recommend applying as soon as your athlete has earned a spot on a competitive team through tryouts or registration. Their club will verify their participation as part of the review process.
Application timing depends on your athlete’s scholarship status:
If your athlete was awarded a scholarship — scholarships are valid for a 12-month period. You do not need to reapply on your own. Our Scholarship Assistant will reach out to you at the 10-month mark to prompt the renewal process, with awards renewing on a 12-month cycle.
If your athlete was not selected — we encourage you to reapply during your athlete’s next tryout or registration cycle when they have secured a spot on a competitive team for the upcoming season. Each new application cycle gives your athlete a fresh opportunity to be considered as funding becomes available.
Yes! As long as each child meets our eligibility criteria, you are welcome to submit a separate application for each of them. Please note that applying for multiple children does not guarantee that any or all of them will be awarded — each application is reviewed individually.
All communication from Chance Sports will be sent to the phone number and/or email address provided in your application, so please make sure both are current and accurate. Awarded, waitlisted and not selected athlete notifications are sent via email. Addtional follow up via text or call occurs occasionally.
